Observing

To identify the child’s most frequently employed safety strategy, check all the behaviours or characteristics that you have observed on more than a few occasions.  You can do so right here. Or, you can also download the file bound below for printing or to fill out on your screen. 

Fight
Acts "hot and bothered".
Easily angered.
Tries to control others.
Blames others frequently.
Loud, noisy.
Pushes away friends.
Makes frequent demands.
Inflexible thinking.
Difficulty concentrating.
Difficulty finishing tasks.
Has trouble fitting in.
Less mature than peers.
Disruptive in groups.
Disrespectful to others.
Confrontational.
Lies frequently.
Flight
Frequently runs away.
Keeps super busy.
Struggles with free time.
Needs to be first.
Bumps into people.
Avoids tasks or activities.
Uses baby talk or silly voices.

Has difficulty following rules.

Disinterested in surroundings.
Easily confused.
Changes the subject abruptly.
Has difficulty completing tasks.
Doesn't listen to others.
Stares into space.
Clumsy.
Scans the environment.
Forgetful.
Slow moving.
Daydreams frequently.
Delayed reactions.
Reluctant to try new things.
Doesn't explore.
Loses track of time.
Slow response when called.
Submit
Socially withdrawn.
Compliant.
Often silent.
Provides yes or no answers.
Shows difficulty with thinking.
Gives up on tasks easily.
Has neutral facial expression.
Exhibits a low mood.
Walks with head down.
Agrees easily.
Described as a loner.
Looks anxious or troubled.
Easily bullied.
Uncomfortable in groups.
Doesn't like attention.
Responds passively.
Fawn
Can’t handle conflict.
People pleasing.
Too agreeable.
Can’t name feelings.
Avoids conflict.
Denies feelings.
Has no clear identity.
Expresses no strong beliefs.
Has shifting values.
Has sudden outbursts.
Has bouts of sadness.
‘’Yes’’ person.
Flatters others.
Excessive giving.
Self-sacrificing.
Experiences fits of anger.
